KILLINGSWORTH GEM
Renowned mid-century Architect and Case Study legend Edward Killingsworth was known for his minimalist buildings, intentionally designed to dissolve the boundaries between indoor and outdoor space. He was one of the key figures who introduced the California style to the world. This rare 1957 pitched roof Killingsworth house is very distinct from all the 'sticks and glass' boxes he was creating at the time. In fact, no other houses like this one are known to still exist. The restoration team retained and restored as many original features of the home as possible, striving to retain its authentic character while modernizing the dwelling and landscape.
The property and landscape were completely redesigned to meet the client’s needs, while still maintaining the outdoor spaces and features that Mr. Killingsworth would have originally considered essential for indoor-outdoor living. A pool, sunning deck, play lawn, covered exterior living room, shaded dining terrace, outdoor kitchen, built-in seat bench with fire pit, and mid-century style plantings all combine to create an inviting and functional family oasis.
The restored property now serves as an excellent example of merging the past with the present, while embodying the essence of mid-century style.
