COUNTRY CLUB DRIVE
This 1942 estate house and garden occupy a secluded 1.5 acre site overlooking a prestigious L.A. area Golf Club. Designed by renowned Southern California Architect Roland E. Coates, this home is situated on a prominent knoll, where the property boasts panoramic views of both Downtown L.A. and the famous Hollywood Sign. Existing rare trees were carefully retained and protected.
Additionally, huge native specimen trees were craned onto the property, dramatically shaping a garden with distinct outdoor rooms and wide-open play spaces. A thoughtfully placed hidden retaining wall created a 'ha-ha,' allowing the new garden and great lawn to merge seamlessly with the expansive golf course below, creating the illusion of an endless vista.
Site features include a century-old Coast Live Oak draping over the entry drive, a fragrant rose garden, an aviary with songbirds, a large entertainment terrace, an elaborate Koi pond, an inviting outdoor fireplace patio, a sports court, a hillside trail through drifts of ornamental grasses, and garden art by sculptor Mineo Mizuno.
Abundant local fauna now find year-round shelter in this wonderful and sustainable California landscape.
