BEACH HOUSE
This AIA award winning home, designed by Rockefeller Kempel Architects, graces a coastal hillside just a few blocks from the Pacific. The home was conceived around a two- story, jewel-like glass entry hall which creates a strong sense of indoor / outdoor openness. The concealed entry gives way to a secluded private home, pool and entertainment space with open-air cabana, dining patio, view terrace, and an outdoor kitchen, all enhanced by soft furnishings and billowy plantings.
California climate appropriate vegetation was used throughout, as native and ornamental grasses wave gracefully in the prevailing ocean winds. One of the most captivating features of the property comes from the presence of huge, mature trees that were craned in to give the residence a sense of age and maturity. Among the chosen specimen trees are an 80-year-old gnarled Olive, a rare and craggy Cork Oak, and a twisting multi-trunk Arbutus 'Marina' with its smooth cinnamon bark.
The combined effect of the architecture and landscape makes this modern home a luxurious, relaxing, and tranquil coastal retreat for an active family.
